Research Internship — Explainable AI Interfaces

Internship

We are offering a 3–6 month research internship focused on building visual interfaces for machine learning explainability. This is a good fit for MSc students or recent graduates looking to explore research before committing to a PhD.

What you will work on

  • Prototyping and evaluating browser-based visualization interfaces
  • Conducting user studies with domain experts (clinicians, analysts)
  • Contributing to the GraphLens open-source project

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or recently completed an MSc in CS, design, or a related field
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and at least one visualization library (D3, Observable, Vega)
  • Curiosity and willingness to read papers outside your comfort zone

  • Duration: 3–6 months, flexible start date
  • Location: on-site or hybrid
  • Stipend: competitive, commensurate with experience

PhD Position in Data Visualization

PhD

We are looking for a motivated PhD student to join our research group and work on interactive visualization for large-scale scientific and social datasets.

What you will work on

  • Designing and evaluating novel visualization techniques for complex, uncertain, or temporal data
  • Building open-source tools used by the research community
  • Publishing at top venues (IEEE VIS, CHI, EuroVis)

Requirements

  • Background in computer science, design, or a related field
  • Interest in data visualization, HCI, or visual analytics
  • Experience with programming (Python, JavaScript, or similar)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
